OMG!~ OMG!~ LET’S GO TO THE KOLIBRI REKORDS SHOW, FOLKS!~
Independent music production Almost Crimes are back!~ And they’re proud enough to present to you another hit show for everyone to see live. Three months ago, Singapore label Middle Class Cigars offered us a double headliner show that are jangle pop trio Sobs and alternative pop band Subsonic Eye. That show was one of the bests of this year and we were hoping for another solid diverse international showcase curated by Almost Crimes!
It’s June now and the production has tripled the joy because they’re bringing not one, not two, but THREE acts that are from the Jakarta-based record label Kolibri Rekords -- surf-pop quartet Bedchamber, bedroom pop geeks Gizpel, and indie-rock hooligans Grrrl Gang. Hopping on the “ADD AS FWENDZ 2.0” South East Asia Tour, Kolibri Rekords are splashing their way to Metro Manila as their first stop in the tour. Gain some anticipation for a pressure wave of upbeat alternative music this June 29!
But wait, for those who aren’t familiar with the bands, let me do a quick rundown of the three so you folks can get an idea of their sound:
BEDCHAMBER are a four-piece indie-pop band from the city of Jakarta. With some citing this band as their most notable acts in the roster, Bedchamber creates an atmosphere you would most likely to get relaxed and float on the dreamy haze of their retrospective take on the genre. Their mellow rhythms are as equivalent to surfing in their local shores so expect a big wave of pleasant guitar riffs and thick vox power.
Gizpel is a project that fuses some sweet toy synth music with lonesome-like dream-pop. What started as a mutual bond between best friends, these guys are making their friendship stronger by injecting the charming minimalism of The Radio Dept. and the gorgeous imperfections of Tennis. Gizpel will quietly make your nights float like a supernatural event.
Grrrl Gang are taking the stage by playing some fun and wild riot-grrl influenced power pop. Try to think of Norah Jones playing in a punk band, well, we’re pretty much exaggerating on this one but please do trust us on this. We’re pretty much excited for these youths of Yogkarta, calmly anticipating as they send thrills down the spines in the show.
Oh wait, you guys thought they’re only bringing in three bands? Well look no further ‘cuz Almost Crimes are having four of the best independent acts opening for Kolibri -- Cebu-based jangle pop band Hey! It’s Your Birthday, Dream-pop singer-songwriter Megumi Acorda, Psychedelic trio Narcloudia, and alternative-rock stalwarts Identikit!~
