EP REVIEW: Conformist - Conformist EP
Morong, Rizal's finest metalcore-slash-hardcore punk outfit Conformist has just released a brand new Self-Titled EP. Starting out around 2011 I believe, this band had been in my favor for almost a year ever since I saw these guys tear the stage at a benefit show around March of 2017. Conformist offer all thrills and no frills unlike any other band that I have encountered in the hardcore scene. Bands like Barred, Veils, The Beauty of Doubt, Choke Cocoi, and the likes have cemented their place in the community for such a long time, newer hardcore bands that i find myself having a hard time getting engaged, often being left behind as I move forward towards newer acts and lineups in live shows. Conformist, on the other hand, are one of those newly discovered bands that I obsess over because of their menacing vocalist that's reminiscent of bands like Secret and Coalesce, combined with instrumentals taking a page right out of the early Converge playbook. Those reasons automatically get Conformist listed in as one of my favorite hardcore acts today.
From the ferocious display of technical skill in its second track, "Dark Matter", to the blood-curdling lyrics of torment and punishment in its third track, "Blight". Conformist's quick but unforgiving listening experience is a must-hear, even a casual music listener might find itself satisfied in hearing. These four tracks of this Rizaleño-made hardcore is equal to a fast-paced enjoyable listen, Conformist's Self Titled EP is as amusing as tearing down the evil for the greater good. Listen with caution if you dare, what lies forth is an unforgiving project that is definitely worth your time.
