TRCK REVIEW: Madeline - Wala Na

Madeline is a female singer-songwriter hailing from Taguig City and is signed under the Yellow Room label. She's been at it with her first single "Mabilis", which was released last year. The only thing that i remember listening to that track was pure disappointment because it sounded so much like your typical rock band that hasn't quite moved on from the sound of Moonstar88. To be completely honest, that was my biggest nightmare whenever female fronted bands try to tackle this direction in their music. The end result didn't really live up to my expectations, since the arrangements proved that it was anything but cutting edge to me.

A heartfelt ballad written in the vein of rock is usually hit or miss. The only way to at least begin to write a great arrangement in this style is to at least not sound like you're stuck in the mid 00's. Madeline on the other hand, having released her newest single titled "Wala Na" serves as an example of how to fail at the first step, while being unremarkably boring in the process. This new song just sounded like her first track, which sounds like every other mid2000s female fronted alt rock song, do I really need to say more? I would rather listen to Moonstar88's older material than listen to this track for a second time. It just hurts my feelings not because the song was painfully generic, but it hurts me as a fan of music to see acts like these who are able to get away with dated mediocrity. Where's the show of progressions here? The sound can generate a mass appeal, yes, but should we stop listening to these kinds of songs or do we still keep on beating the dead horse that is plain old guitar solos in the middle of the song, anti-climactic choruses, dull vocals, and a very loud final mix that just sounds like the instruments hate each other?

In conclusion, Madeline's "Wala Na" is already a title to this review already. It brings nothing new to the table.
