%ercentius - 0% EP REVIEW

Minimize the Maximum in BuwanBuwan Collective's latest Full Moon release from '%ercentius' titled "0%". Being Similarobjects' hidden persona/pseudonym for three years, not only this surprised a lot of people but this EP also managed to shake grounds in different wavelengths.

This has got to be one of Buwanbuwan's engaging releases so far from all of their Full Moon Releases in my opinion. Combining different elements of electronic music subgenres which are influenced by chiptune, house, footwork, glitch, and extratone, %ercentius raises the bar and keeps the bar high where no other beatsmith has ever gone before.

Tracks like "Half-Assed Artist", "Strong Lines", "Devil's Cave", "Mindovermutant", and "Norequests" keeps the flow of "0%" steady and buoyant while the other tracks that I haven't mentioned amount to %ercentius magnetic (and also addictive) pull. This is Similarobjects' (or %ercentius rather) most visceral, hard-hitting project. This is sound manipulation in its deep-roots. This is electronic music in its extreme.

There are glimpses of µ-ziq, Venetian Snares, and Autechre in this project. None of these tracks sound like they are sketches, b-sides, and drafts. Some of these tracks even squash local modern-day producers and their bursting egos and pretentious energy in their SoundCloud accounts.

There are some few things that i had to ponder about whenever electronic music is mentioned, most likely in a local context, and those things i had to say about it is that some musicians never realize how making the same electronic music can become stale and it can ruin the creative flow of the artist. %ercentius' "0%", is a hybrid that etches the wounds of electronic music, healing the past and recovering for a better future. This EP easily became one of my favorite EP's of the year. You guys should take a listen and absorb everything about it.
