TRCK OF THE WEEK: IV of Spades - Hey Barbara
Throwbacks are tired and common nowadays in the age of the digital but IV of Spades made me want to revisit that old Manila Sounds compilation my grandfather has in his cassette tape collection.
IV of Spades proves that this generation isn't styling over the substance with this track of theirs titled "Hey Barbara". I went through the phase of appreciating the past and cry out that i was born in the wrong generation, IV of Spades sleek single and specific nod to the 70's tickled me with how likeable this is from the get-go.
I was a bit bugged by the usage of their way of styling the guitars as they did with their past singles that used to featured more of a heavier sound (i have no idea what to call it since i am fairly new to using technical terms). I guess use it consistently so their tracks can sound distinct from each other. Another thing that i noticed, the track's vocals completely reminds me of Maroon 5's V or It Won't Be Soon Before Long for the way how this is styled to be this Adam Levine tribute.
Nitpicking aside, it took me by surprise by their change of direction. I wasn't overly excited of it because most bands these days are doing the same thing. Hey Barbara is almost irresistible for how the guitar riff bounces along the verses. I'd give it a go even if i'm on the 13th listen.
